CONTACT QUESTIONS

How do I contact Portman Electric?

Call 647-835-7757 or email info@portmanelectric.ca. The phone line is answered 24/7 for electrical emergencies in Toronto. For non-urgent work you can also send photos of the work area and get a free remote ballpark estimate with no obligation.

What are Portman Electric's hours?

Emergency electrical service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including weekends and holidays. For emergency calls in our primary Toronto service area, we typically aim to have an electrician onsite within approximately 1.5–2 hours, depending on location, traffic, current call volume and availability. That window is a target rather than a guarantee.

Where is Portman Electric based, and how far do you travel?

Portman Electric is based in Toronto, Ontario and travels to the customer. The primary service area is Toronto including East York, North York, Scarborough, Etobicoke and York, extending to Vaughan, Richmond Hill and Markham. If you are just outside that, call and you will get an honest answer about whether the job makes sense.

Is an estimate free?

A remote ballpark estimate from photos and a description of the work is free and carries no obligation. Some jobs cannot be priced responsibly without an onsite look — what sits behind a finished wall, the real condition of an old service, or how an existing circuit was run cannot be judged from a photograph.

What should I have ready when I call?

It speeds things up considerably to know the age of the property, whether the panel is breakers or fuses and its amperage if the number is visible on the main breaker, whether the problem affects one circuit or the whole property, and what changed just before it started. Clear photos of the panel and the affected area are more useful than a description.

What should I do while waiting for an emergency electrician?

If there is fire, smoke or immediate danger, call 911 first — not an electrician. Otherwise, if it is safe to reach the panel, switch off the affected circuit, or the main breaker if the problem is not isolated to one circuit. Do not touch anything wet near electrical equipment, do not keep resetting a breaker that trips again, and keep people away from the area until it has been looked at.

Is Portman Electric licensed and insured?

Yes. Portman Electric operates as an ECRA/ESA Licensed Electrical Contractor, Licence #7018049, and is insured and WSIB covered. The licence number can be verified through the Electrical Safety Authority.
