Commercial Power Distribution in Toronto

Distribution is how power gets from the service entrance to every panel, transformer and machine in a building. Portman installs, alters and troubleshoots commercial distribution — panels, feeders, disconnects, transformers and three-phase systems at 120/208V and 347/600V.

Call Us If…

Real situations, not a capabilities list. If one of these sounds familiar, you're in the right place.

  1. 01A tenant space needs a new feeder and distribution panel.
  2. 02Equipment is being added that needs its own disconnect and supply.
  3. 03A distribution panel is overloaded, damaged or obsolete.
  4. 04A transformer needs replacing or relocating during a renovation.
  5. 05Nobody can say with confidence what feeds what.

Voltages

120/208V and 347/600V Systems

Smaller Toronto commercial buildings commonly receive 120/208V three-phase. Larger buildings often receive 347/600V, run lighting at 347V and step down through transformers to 120/208V for receptacles and small equipment. Distribution work means understanding where in that chain a change is being made and what it affects upstream and downstream.

Alterations

Changing Distribution in an Existing Building

Most distribution work in Toronto is alteration, not new construction: splitting a floor into two tenancies, adding a kitchen line, relocating a panel for a renovation. We trace existing feeders, confirm capacity, plan the shutdown and leave updated directories so the next person knows what feeds what.

Shutdown Coordination

Distribution work generally requires de-energizing equipment that serves more than one area. We schedule shutdowns with the owner, manager and affected tenants, and keep them as short as practical.

Distribution Project Steps

  1. STEP 1

Review drawings or existing conditions and required loads.

  2. STEP 2

Confirm capacity and propose the distribution approach.

  3. STEP 3

    Written quote with shutdown requirements.

  4. STEP 4

ESA notification and utility coordination where required.

  5. STEP 5

Installation during planned shutdowns, then testing.

  6. STEP 6

Directories updated, inspection completed and work documented.

Safety first. If you see smoke or fire, or someone has been shocked, call 911 first. Do not open panels, reset repeatedly tripping breakers or work on live equipment yourself — keep people clear and call us. Urgent? Call 647-835-7757 or see commercial emergency service.
